How to make a passport photo online

  1. Choose your country and document and upload a front-facing photo (JPG, PNG or iPhone HEIC).
  2. Click the top of your head and then your chin. The photo is scaled so your head is exactly the required height.
  3. Fine-tune by dragging and zooming until every check is green. Adjust brightness or lighten the background if needed.
  4. Download the single photo for online forms, or a 4×6 in print sheet (or A4/Letter) and print it at a photo lab or at home.

Passport photo sizes by country

Head height is measured from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head, including hair. Click a country for its full rules on background, glasses, expression and how recent the photo must be.

Why head size matters more than photo size

Almost every printer gets 2×2 in or 35×45 mm right; most rejections come from the head being too small or too big inside the frame. A 35×45 mm photo with a 28 mm head fails the Schengen 32–36 mm rule even though the paper size is perfect. Marking the crown and chin lets the tool calculate the exact scale, so the head lands in range every time.

How to take a passport photo at home

  • Light: face a window in daylight, or use two lamps either side of the camera. Avoid a single overhead light — it casts shadows under the eyes and chin.
  • Background: stand about 1 m (3 ft) in front of a plain white or light-grey wall so your shadow falls behind you, not on the wall.
  • Camera: ask someone to hold the phone at eye level about 1.2–1.5 m away and use the normal 1× lens. Selfies at arm's length make noses look bigger and can be rejected.
  • Pose: shoulders square, head straight, hair behind the ears, no hat. Take several shots and pick the sharpest.
  • Leave room: include your shoulders and space above your head. The tool crops it down — it can't add what isn't there.

Printing your photos

  • 4×6 in photo print (recommended): cheapest and most accurate. Upload the sheet to any photo lab and choose a standard 4×6 / 10×15 cm print with no cropping. Six 2×2 in or eight 35×45 mm photos fit on one print.
  • A4 or Letter at home: use photo paper and print at 100% / actual size — never “fit to page”, which shrinks the photos. Measure one with a ruler before cutting.
  • Cut on the grey lines with a paper trimmer or a sharp craft knife and a metal ruler for straight edges.

Frequently asked questions

Is this passport photo maker free?

Yes. Single photos, digital versions and print sheets are free with no watermark and no sign-up.

Will my photo be accepted?

The tool gets the size, head height and framing right. Acceptance also depends on things only you control: sharp focus, even lighting with no shadows, a plain background, a neutral expression and no glasses where they're banned.

Does it remove the background?

It can lighten a plain wall towards white or light grey with a simple colour fill from the edges. It isn't AI background removal, so stand in front of a plain, light wall for best results.

How do I print passport photos cheaply?

Download the 4×6 in sheet and order a regular 4×6 print at a drugstore or online photo lab — it usually costs less than $0.50 and holds 6–8 photos.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Cropping, adjustments and the print sheet are all made in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device and nothing is stored.
