How to crop an image

  1. Choose a photo (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC or AVIF).
  2. Pick an aspect ratio — Free, 1:1, 4:5, 16:9… — or a social/print preset.
  3. Drag the crop box to position it and pull the handles to resize. Use Zoom for a tighter crop, and rotate or flip if needed.
  4. Optionally type an output width or height, choose JPG, PNG or WebP, then press Crop image and download.

Cropping vs. resizing

Cropping cuts away the edges and changes what's in the frame; resizing scales the whole picture. To hit an exact size without stretching, crop to the target ratio first (e.g. 4:5), then set the output width — the tool does both in one step.

Print size math

Inches = pixels ÷ DPI. A 1800-pixel-wide crop prints 6 inches wide at 300 DPI (photo quality) or 12 inches at 150 DPI. The "At 300 DPI" box under the editor shows this for your current crop.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping reduce image quality?

Cropping itself only removes pixels. Quality is lost only if you enlarge a small crop or save as JPG/WebP at a low quality; use PNG or 90%+ quality to keep it crisp.

How do I crop a photo to a passport size?

Choose the 'US passport 2×2 in (600×600)' preset, place your head in the center of the box and export. Check your country's rules — many use 35×45 mm (7:9) instead.

Can I crop on my phone?

Yes. The crop box and handles work with touch, and the result downloads to your phone's files or photos.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Cropping happens in your browser with the Canvas API; nothing is sent to a server.
